On the 14th of October 2008 the Swiss Cluster Initiave Toolpoint presented the standardization initiative SiLA (Standardization in Lab Automation) at the 11th MipTec Conference (The Leading European Event for Drug Discovery) in Basel. Xavo is one of the SiLA initiators.
More than 40 people from the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry, device suppliers and system integrators took part in the SiLA luncheon. The participants confirmed in unison, that the time is “overripe” for standardization and raised their hands to show their willingness to take part proactively in the SiLA process.
The first SiLA standard will be released and used in first customer projects by the end of 2009. More information at SiLA.
Goal of SiLA:
- Enable flexibility in selection of devices for integration
- Reduce efforts during replacement of a device
- Allow fast implementation of technological innovation
- Allow fast adaptation of hardware and software to new workflow requirements
