Hello everyone,
can you believe, that it has already been three years since Xavo made the move from manufacturing into the field of Drug Discovery. I was part of that move and I like to recap what we have learnt so far and share with you the trends that I see coming towards Drug Discovery. Drug Discovery has seen massive improvements in automation in the past years. The throughput has increased significantly, but software solutions couldn’t really keep up. The same situation was seen in the process industry decades ago, and since then, more or less standardized processes (e.g. logistical processes) have been established by the industry.
It has been 2 weeks since the last “stand-alone” Lab Automation which took place in Palm Springs. The exhibition and conference were well visited, with more than 4000 participants (according to the SLAS).
We were also able to welcome lots of visitors at our booth, where we gave live demos of our product Xavo Lab Logistics. We had interesting disscusions with end users of our software, about their processes in the lab. A big ‘Thank You’ goes to the about 40 attendees to my talk “Standards in Lab Environments” which I gave in the Informatics Track of this year’s Lab Automation.
It was also a succesful event for SiLA, which we also represented at our booth. Many companies were interested in the standards SiLA are currently developing. This interest was also seen in the SiLA session that was held on Wednesday, despite the very early start of 7:30.
It was exciting and fun to be at the last Lab Automation in Palm Springs. This said, I look forward to being at the first SLAS event in 2012 in San Diego.
See you there,
Thomas
From 7th December to 9th December, the first SiLA Developer Workshop took place in Stäfa, Switzerland. By the way, the Zürichsee is a very nice spot to be.
As one of the founding members, Xavo of course participated in this seminar. The target audience were information scientists as well as hardware engineers from Novartis, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Hamilton, Lab Services, Tecan and PASS. The workshop covered all topics needed in order to develop a SiLA Device Driver with different integration levels, but also hints on how to engineer a SiLA Service Consumer.
At the end of the seminar, the attendees were free to make a SiLA Certification Test. From now on, Xavo is officially SiLA certified.
LabAutomation2011 takes place January 29 to February 2, 2011, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, CA, USA. It is the world’s largest conference and exhibition focused exclusively on laboratory automation.
You can find us on Booth 383 where we will present the latest version of Xavo Lab Logistics - our software product for Plate, Storage and Compound Management for Life Science Research and Development.
Only at LabAutomation2011 can participants experience the latest scientific advances in laboratory automation technologies while networking with the most innovative companies from around the world.
